You began your research with inspectional reading which involved systematically skimming articles to determine which ones might be applicable to your research question.
Now it is time to return to the articles you chose and read them more thoroughly. This is called analytical reading.
As you begin reading analytically, make sure to approach the content in the way it was intended. For example, you would not read a scientific paper metaphorically, that is not the intent of the author.

Finding the author's thesis
Looking over the outline/structure of the argument
Reading the book or article for complete understanding
