1st Brazilian Symposium on Muscle Biology
Online Symposium 10-15 May 2021
Welcome to the 1st Brazilian Symposium on Muscle Biology. In this online edition, the event will take place from May 10-15, 2021. The symposium is being devised and organized by researchers from different Brazilian universities and institutes who develop scientific research and teaching on skeletal muscle tissue biology. Our goal is to form a network to bring researchers and students together in a unique and fascinating event, with an unprecedented theme in our country.
Some researchers on myogenesis and muscle biology meet on two occasions, in 2015 and in 2019, in meetings organized by professors Cláudia Mermelstein and Manoel Luis Costa, at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. These meetings were very productive, and generated a series of collaborations.
The 1st Symposium emerges as an idea to expand this initial group to the whole of Brazil and thus create a permanent network of researchers with the aim of promoting collaborations and discussions around different aspects of muscle biology. Renowned scientists from Brazil and abroad (America, Europe and Australia) will be present at talks, round tables and short courses, providing a rich and stimulating environment for discussions on the advances of different areas that underpin the knowledge on muscle biology. Considering that we will have several experts in this area at our event, we invite you and your fellow researchers (students and teachers) to participate and send abstracts for poster sessions, where the best discussions and possibilities for collaboration between groups will certainly occur.
We hope to meet you soon, even if virtually, with great enthusiasm and good ideas.

LETTER TO THE COMMUNITY
Dear Colleagues,
The Brazilian scientific community that develops research on muscular biology has grown considerably in the last decade. Although local events more focused on this theme have been created, our country lacks a more comprehensive event, which allows the exchange of information and experiences on a national scale and, above all, which allows for greater integration between regions. Within this context, from the meetings of researchers mainly linked to FESBE and SBBC, the idea of creating the first Brazilian Symposium on Muscular Biology arose. We believe that the launch of this event will be an important contribution so that we can get to know each other better as a community and integrate more effectively. The format we chose for this event is relatively simple, without simultaneous presentations and, therefore, with few speakers. The symposium will be completely online and free for participants and without any financial support from funding agencies. This design was chosen for its easier handling (the entire conception and organization is being conducted by the researchers themselves and their students) and also because we consider this event to be the embryo of larger events in the future. Community participation is essential and we invite you, a colleague active in the area, to join the event by sending your work. Community participation will be essential to have more accurate information about how many we are and what we do.
