Earlier this week with both my help and Oliver's, the students got to finally finish working on their historical event essays and 3d models on those events for their very last exhibition in elementary school which I'm proud of. The only real problem I've ever had during this internship was misbehaving kids like Manny and Able, but recently Manny has started to act better and be more behaved in class without Able around which i'm really proud to see him do. Oliver has always been openly proud on how respectful and confident of an intern I've been for him in these past few weeks supporting his class, he's told me how I have been one of the best interns he's ever had and how great of a fit I'd be in this field.
Looking back on myself at the start of this internship and the progress I've made towards my growth question throughout it, I can truthfully say that I am very proud of how far I've come in being a part of Oliver's class. Over these past few weeks I've built up a strong bond with all of these students who seek out my assistance on their work and acknowledge my support towards them. If I were to rephrase my growth question now I would change it to be "Building a positive connection with the students to help better communicate and assist them academically" which explains my main growth goal more directly then it did before.
After the 5th graders finished up on their last elementary exhibition, the whole grade got to take a field trip to Belmont Park to have fun with their friends and to celebrate their transition into middle school. After getting our ride passes both me and one of the kids parents helped chaperone a small group of students as they explored around the park, went on the rides, and had fun with their friends. I feel as if this field trip was a great way to cap off the students final year of elementary together even if it made some people feel a bit queasy.
Oliver was grateful that I personally wanted to attend the students exhibition after school and gave me an extra half hour of work for that day to thank me for attending.
