Growth question: The growth question that I chose for this internship is "being able to communicate better with the students and support them in a meaningful way". I chose to further my growth in this area because I want to build strong bonds with these students to help better support them throughout my time in their class. While there wasn't really anything that I directly struggled with in my last internship, I did notice how I never really communicated that much with the other volunteers, outside of my mentor, at the Maritime Museum which is something that I wanted to change for this internship.
Internship progress: Last week I got a email back from someone at High Tech Explorer called Oliver Clark who is a 5th grade teacher and was excited to have me help their class as an assistant teacher for my internship. Earlier this week, me and Oliver met together in his class to discuss what I will be doing during this internship which will be managing the classroom, checking in on the students, and supporting and aiding them if they get stuck on their assignments.
Email progress: For my last internship I didn't really know were to send an email to since it was my first time ever reaching out for a job opportunity, and in the end I had to rely on my teachers suggestion to help me secure one in the end. Even though I did struggle with sending out emails for my internship last year, I received a lot of help from both Mr. Steve, my dad, and my mom who helped me find places to reach out to like other schools and companies to see if any internship opportunities were available. And even though most of these places didn't reply back or said that there weren't any spots available for me there, I'm still glad that my parents and Steve could help me out with them and eventually getting one.Â
Paperwork Progress: As of May 7th both me and my mentor have filled out our respective sections of my internship handbook, all I need is for my parents to fill out their sections of the handbook for my internship to be finalized which they will do this weekend before internship starts. Something differently that I want to start doing for my internship blog posts is to work on them throughout the week instead of just leaving them till the last minute on Sunday because it used to be a struggle for me to get them finished in only a few hours before they were late.
