I want to take this moment to thank my mentor Kevin Sheehan for all of the support and guidance he's given me during my internship this past month, you've significantly helped my personal growth and experience in this profession. You've been very kind and willing to assist me with any issues or questions I have, as well as entrusting me with handling any fragile or historical property. I am very grateful for getting the chance to learn how to curate entries into the museum's archival site, which was a skill set I never had the chance to learn before and is something I will carry forward in my career. And I want to thank you once again for being such an inspiring figure in my life, I truly appreciate all the time and effort you given to support me, and I look forward to staying in touch with you in the future.
On the final day of our academic internship, we would present our IPOL slideshow (internship presentation of learning) to a small group of tenth graders where we'd talk about where we chose to work at and what we did over the past month. Even though my mentor wasn't able to be present during my presentation on Friday because he was going on a trip with his family up to Big Bear, we did schedule a time on Thursday where I could present them with my teacher Mrs. Annie via zoom together. After the presentation I also briefly demonstrated how I curated different items into the museums archival site and went on a small tour inside of the Dolphine Submarine with them.
Over this past month, I have gotten the opportunity to develop my research and presentation skills by being involved in the different areas of museum operations, and my curatorial skills where I learned the proper methods for handling, storing, and documenting the different artifacts donated to the museum. Some of my personal growths for this internship were taking ownership of what tasks I need to complete without direct supervision from my mentor and being detail oriented when gathering any important information on the different artifacts.
