How has my internship developed?
At the beginning of my internship, I was only tasked with updating and adding details about the books from their library's archive. But this week I've been helping with unpacking and fixing paintings, organizing their storage room, and adding both artifacts and trophies into their catalog. I feel as if this week I've proven to my mentor that I'm capable of performing more delicate tasks at the museum and that I can be a trusted employe.

My biggest challenges.
One of the biggest challenges I've faced while working at my internship was learning how to catalog and update the museums archives. At the beginning of my internship, I had a hard time understanding how to operate their archiving site, but my mentor "Kevin" would gladly assist me whenever I got stuck. Another challenge I delt with was being as delicate as I could with museum property. Some of the items that I'm tasked with cataloging are either very fragile and/or about a century old, so I have to be very careful when handling them.

My internship project
My Internship Project will be centered around my journey assisting in the collections and curatorial department within the Maritime Museum of San Diego. How I have been identifying and cataloging historical documents, maritime related objects and paintings. I will be working with my mentor to identify a key area within this department that I will improve both on a visual and educational level for the museum and the community.
I will be identifying a specific area within the curational department, updating and adding information. Assisting in the preservation of maritime objects for presentation and display. Adding content to each item for reference and connecting these to our cultural history to add to the catalog that the museum has in place.
My final project will show how I have taken this opportunity to contribute to the preservation of historical and cultural maritime discovery. How the work that I complete will benefit the museum after I leave. It will show the challenges I faced and overcame whilst learning new skills and how they will help me once I return to school.

My hope is that this project will benefit the Maritime Museum of San Diego by helping make all of the historical objects and educational information more easily available for the staff and volunteers to access. To assist in the reallocation of collected items that have become detached from their original call numbers. To hopefully participate in exhibition installation or presentation. And to work with the volunteers and support exhibition development.
