Normally, making an actual snowman in a yard is not a big deal. We are seeing and touching the snow and molding it in a three-dimensional environment. When working on the computer screen, however, users are observing a three-dimensional environment through a two-dimensional window.
In this lesson students are exposed to 3D modeling and design. Utilizing Tinkercad, which is a simple, online 3D design and printing app for everyone, students were challenged to design a simple snowman.
Technologies used: Tinkercad and 3D printer
The class was shown the basics of using TinkerCad including a short tutorial on the making of a snowman. Students then worked independently to use the 3D graphing tools to discover and create their own snowman. They had to bring all the parts, hat, face, body (with buttons), and arms, onto the work space and arrange them three-dimensionally.
