Welcome to Hughes County EMS on the web
Hughes county EMS currently has 3 Type 1 and 1 Type 2 Ambulances for 911 calls and transfers. Unit 1 is a 2023 International CV 515 manufactured by Frazer Ltd. Unit 2 is manufactured by American Emergency Vehicles (AEV) mounted on a Ford 2017 F-450 Chassis, In 2023 Unit 2 was remounted by Crossroads Ambulance onto a 2023 Ford F-450 chassis. Unit 3 is a 2016 AEV ambulance on Ford F-450 Chassis, in 2022 Crossroads Ambulance remounted this unit onto a 2022 F-450 Chassis. Each ambulance cost around $185,000 to manufacture, but has a life expectancy of 30 years. When the chassis reaches its end of life, the module (giant box) can be placed on a new chassis at less than half the cost of new. HCEMS expects to remount the module every 5-7 years. Each ambulance is crash tested and designed to survive a roll over and every seating position features crash tested "race car" style 6 point restraints. The Type 2 ambulance is a 2018 Medix Ford Transit Ambulance that serves as a backup unit for special events, peak call times or to serve as a front line unit when one of the Type 1s need preventative maintenance. Each ambulance also features logging medication safes securely fastened to the ambulance frame.

Hughes County EMS currently has 3 Hamilton T1 Ventilators that features Invasive and non-invasive support for infant (5 kg and up) to adult patients, with a flexible array of ventilation options including Pressure Control/Volume Control ventilation, SIMV/Assist Control spontaneous breath support, and stand-alone CPAP/BiLevel support.
Hughes County EMS currently has 6 (each ambulance has 2) Sapphire infusion pumps. This device provides precise delivery of multiple therapies across the general spectrum of clinical care. The pump features fully preferred dosing and delivery rate, variable occlusion pressure, and built in medication library to reduce medication infusion errors.
Each ambulance features a Stryker Power-Pro XT. It is an industry-leading powered ambulance cot that features a battery-powered hydraulic system that raises and lowers the cot at the touch of a button. The stretcher is also crash tested and has a lifting capacity of 700lbs.
To assist with loading the stretcher into the ambulance, each ambulance also features the Stryker Power-LOAD system. The Power-LOAD cot fastener improves operator and patient safety by supporting the cot throughout the loading and unloading process. This system is crash tested, virtually eliminates cot dropping during the loading processes, and removes the spinal loading on our medics backs leading to a decrease in back injuries.
The EZ-IO (intraosseious) System is indicated anytime vascular access is difficult to obtain in emergent, urgent, or medically necessary cases for up to 24 hours and provides peripheral venous access with central venous catheter performance. This drill places a metal catheter into the bone of the patient in time sensitive situations, with minimal discomfort to the patient.
VividTrac® Video Laryngoscope provides an unmatched image quality to support proper and speedy placement of the ET tube, leading to high intubation success rate in the first attempt. VividTrac has an integrated ET tube channel providing easy means for the preloaded ET tube advancement into the oral cavity and trachea, under continuous visualization, and without the need of a separate Stylet.
VividTrac has been shown to perform flawlessly under concurrent chest compression, in moving vehicles, as well as with successful suctioning of the airway by the same person performing the intubation. All these attributes and the unique “no force” technique used with the VividTrac (which is well tolerated even in awake patients) make the VividTrac one of the safest devices on the market today.
The VividTrac system attaches to the laptop computers in each ambulance that allows for the video of the intubation to be uploaded to the patients electronic health record.
Each ambulance features a Dell Pro Rugged 14 laptop. This military spec rugged Toughbook is designed to be dropped and still hold together.
Each ambulance features a Stryker Stair-PRO stair chair. The stair chair utilizes Stryker's innovative Stair-TREAD system, which allows caregivers to transport patients down stairs without lifting.

Each Ambulance features a SonoTrax Vascular Doppler with a 8MHz and a 4MHz Probe
Each Ambulance Features a Thomas EMS IV Warmer.. The Thomas EMS IV warmer brings two liters of fluid up to body temperature and keeps them ready for use as long as power is supplied. The 12V power supply facilitates regulation of the correct temperature.
Each Ambulance features a Laerdal LSU Portable suction unit mounted to a crash tested charging receptacle. The Laerdal LSU provides device diagnostics with tests including an occlusion check, vacuum efficiency, maximum vacuum, system leakage and battery status.
Each ambulance carries extrication boards, slide boards, Infection Control Tents, splints (including vacuum splint type c-collars, and SAM Pelvic Slings), Tourniquets (C-A-T and SAM Junctional Tourniquets), medications (Click here to see our onboard medication list), triage bag, water rescue equipment, pediatric restraint systems (including Pedi Mate Plus, Neo Mate, Kangoo FX), Medication refrigerators, and more.
