This course focuses on building vocabulary, practicing multiple 2-D and 3-D art-making techniques, and using creativity and problem-solving to produce artwork. Students will learn about the elements of art and principles of design to create original art pieces with a variety of media.

This course is designed for students who wish to further develop skills and techniques established in Art 1. Students will explore a variety of artists, art processes and materials such as drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, and digital art. Students will analyze and discuss historical and contemporary art contributions and will create work that reflects aesthetic, cultural and historical contexts. Art 2 is a process driven course and willingness to get involved in the creative process is a more important requirement than the student’s talent or previous experience.

This course focuses on creative exploration of media, technique, style, and subject matter to create highly original artwork demonstrating mastery of foundational skills learned in Art 1 and 2. Students will analyze and discuss historical and contemporary art from around the world and consider their own developing artistic identity. Students will maintain a professional online presence through a portfolio to showcase their artwork over the course of the semester.

In this course, advanced students will focus on portfolio development as they continue to develop skills in producing high quality works of art. Emphasis is placed on creating more complex visual statements. A wide range of materials and processes will be further explored, and students will have the opportunity to focus on a chosen subject or medium. Completion of this course will result in a portfolio ready for college applications.
