LIBRARY SCIENCE 101
Credit: 1 unit
Prerequisite: Application, Recommendation of Media Coordinator
CA: 9th - 12th grade
Library Science 101 will introduce students to the arrangement, organization, and function of the library in a high school setting. Students will engage in the classification of media materials, according to the Dewey Decimal System, and the implementation of audiovisual and multimedia equipment throughout the school building. Through hands-on experience and essential tasks, students will develop the skills needed to positively serve the student population using the library as a tool. By the end of this course students will be prepared for Library Science 102 and have a solid foundation on how the library can positively impact individual students and the school as a whole.

CA: 10th - 12th grade
Library Science 102 is a course designed to build on skills gained in Library Science 101. Students will exercise creativity and practice on-the-job skills by independently managing displays, evaluating sources, and diving deeper into copyright and plagiarism issues. In this course, students will have the freedom to create and implement effective programs that will benefit the student population at Pisgah High School. Students may also have the opportunity to visit other local libraries to gain a broader understanding of the library science field across a broader spectrum of settings. This class is designed to advance students' understanding of the library's fundamental tasks in an education setting, as well as preparing them for a possible career in Library Science.
YEARBOOK/PUBLICATION
Credit: 2 elective units (if taken both semesters)
Prerequisite: Application, recommendation of Yearbook Staff Advisor
CA: 9th – 12th Grade
Students in this class publish the school yearbook and create multimedia presentations that document the events of the school year. Students must sell advertisements, interview students and teachers, design pages, take pictures, and write articles. Students must be very knowledgeable in technology and social media. Those students interested in journalism, photography, art, current events and trends, high school sports, meeting new people and school history and traditions are encouraged to take this class.
