The students harvested lemon balm that they put into olive oil. This infused the olive oil with the lemon balm. 6th grade learns about how energy and matter cycle through living and non living. The lemon balm was then stained out and students used shea butter, coconut oil, beeswax, and their infused olive oil to make lip balm to sell at the farmers market.
Sixth grade cared for our herbs in our hydroponics. They made sure it was filled with water and then harvested it several times. The herbs that were harvested were air dried and then packaged. Some herbs were harvested and washed just before our farmers market. The students enjoyed learning about herbs and how to grow them.
We often have days where the students are free to create. They use supplies in the classroom.
As a class, we made pesto from a mortar and pestle and tasted it. We made it from the herbs we have grown. We also made lip balm that had the lemon balm that we grew infused in olive oil.
The classes worked together to create a Christmas village and then programmed our Indi Car to drive from home to the mall to go shopping.
We created an ornament that we could hang in the hall that was inspired from nature.
