Students practiced patterns on an egg shape. Learning to create and identify patterns is a key skill when doing science.
Students used cut pool noodles and tooth picks to create something usefull. The creativity was definately there as they explained why each creation was useful.
Students used a Geoboard pattern to practice measuring. This was a critical thinking skill as they had to match the picture on the card they were given. They had been learning measuring in math.
Students colored coffee filters that were the shape of a 4 leaf clover and then sprayed them with water to watch the colors mix.
We used strips of paper to create heart towers on a 3x5 card. The students glued the hearts together and the challenge was to keep it balanced so it wouldn't fall over.
We used a lot of different items to feel and see vibrations that come from sound or that make sound. We also used bottles that had different sized items in them and organized them by sound, noticing the different vibrations. After our exploration students were able to create shakers with different sized items.
We used the play-doh to practice rolling snakes and balls. These are small motor skills that are needed along with all the creativity!
Students worked as a team to create a Christmas Village. Each Table was assigned a different part of the village. They worked on parks, homes, stores, roads, and people.
As a class, we read the book Santa's New Suit and then the students were given patterns of pants and shirts to trace and paper to create a new suit for Santa. They worked and used their creativity.

The class read the book Our Table and worked to design a table that could accommodate 6 people. Circle punches were used to represent plates and the students built with a variety of our building toys.

Students were given circle punches they glued on the page and created something out of the circle.
Students selected a sticker to create an environment for. They looked for colors in the sticker and colored an environment to match.
We floated the S or M off of M&M and Skittles. We also talked about water and its ability to dissolve sugar, which shows by the color in the water.
In first grade we are learning about animals and their traits. Students have been working on a mask with a specific trait.
