We learned about properties of matter as we catagorized and sorted items from nature.
We used cookie cutters to create ornaments from air-dried clay. This was a baking soda clay that we were then able to watercolor.
The class read the book Our Table and worked to design a table that could accommodate 6 people. Circle punches were used to represent plates and the students built with recycled materials.

We have been working to bring to life the setting of a story. Students are working on setting in Language arts and we brought that to STEM. We read the story Someone is Eating the Sun by Ruth A. Sonneborn and the students created a setting from the story.
Each class is watching the life cycle of a pumpkin
The Story of Pumpkin Jack - Life cycle of a pumpkin
We have been working on how seeds come from the food we eat. This is a matching game.
We are learning about seed dispersal. Seeds dispers either from wind, water, hitch hiking on an animal, being eaten then pooped out, or bursting. We spent some time finding seeds inside the flowers to see how they would be dispersed. We made seed bombs to help the seeds spread in nature, and we looked for seeds and plants in our food, and are trying to grow them.
