Automatic External Defibrillators (AED)

AED Locations:

Workplace Injuries

If a workplace injury occurs, notify your supervisor or your college personnel office immediately about your injury/illness. Inform them if you will be seeking medical attention beyond basic first aid and intend to file for workers’ compensation. You must provide complete and accurate information, including outside (non-University) employment and prior similar injury/illness. You must obtain and submit forms to the Workers’ Compensation Coordinator in the Hawai‘i CC Human Resources Office.

Active Shooter/Violence Awareness

An “active shooter” is an individual who is engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area; in most cases, active shooters use firearms(s) and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims. Key points:

    • Victims are selected at random

    • Event is unpredictable and evolves quickly

    • Knowing what to do can save lives

Visit UH-Manoa's "Responding to an Active Shooter" web page for additional information, and videos.

In addition, the Hawaiʻi Police Department's Active Shooter/Violence Awareness website provides informational resources and videos to increase awareness on this topic to help make the Big Island a safe place to live, visit, and conduct business.

Emergency Preparedness

Because emergencies are unpredictable, it is important for you to know what to do when one happens.

Emergency Operations Plan

The Emergency Operations Plan shall provide the necessary guidance to organize and direct Hawai‘i Community College’s operation in the event of an emergency and/or civil defense action that may be necessary (University of Hawai‘i APM A-9.700, Plan for Emergency and Civil Defense Events).

Campus Rally Point Locations

Please take time to review the Rally Point Location for your campus/building. In the event of an actual fire or emergency evacuation, please safely exit the building and proceed to your designated Rally Point.

How do I Report an Emergency?

As a reminder, domestic disturbances, altercations, acts of violence, theft of property, property damage, vandalism, etc., should be reported to Campus Security immediately. Call or use one of the emergency boxes if available on the campus.

    • Manono Campus: 854-1420

    • UH-Hilo Campus: 974-7911

    • Pālamanui Campus: 640-6515

If there is immediate danger, fire or injury requiring police, fire and/or medical response:

    • Call 911 and provide the requested information.

    • Follow up with a call to the respective security emergency numbers for your location and to your immediate supervisor.

For incidents and situations that do not require an immediate police, fire and/or medical response, call the respective security emergency numbers and your supervisor.

Disruptive Students - Refer to the Student Conduct Code (Relevant policies include EP 7.208; HAW 7.102). Contact Security staff immediately if student conduct disrupts class and necessitates student removal. There are also new updates for COVID-19.

How do I Sign up For Emergency Alerts?

The UH Alert emergency notification system alerts the university community in the event of a natural, health or civil emergency. The information you provide will only be used in the event of an emergency that impacts the health and safety of the UH community or closures of whole campuses.
