On my flight on the way to Taiwan. Keep in mind that there is no direct flight to Taipei from Honolulu. You will be landing in Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport for international flights to Taipei.
Just landed in Taiwan and wasn’t familiar with how their transportation system works, so I opted for a rideshare such as Uber that works in Taiwan. The distance from the airport to my dorm was about a 50 minute ride, which usually has a set fee of 1,400 NTD for rides under an hour or 50 km.
I’ve just arrived at the dorm, and this is the view from my room. The process was a bit stressful because I wasn’t able to pay my dorm fee before arriving. I knew it could be paid at a convenience store, but I was still unsure how it worked. If you’re like me and haven’t paid your dorm fee in advance, don’t worry there’s a convenience store called "Hi-Life" located right at the entrance/exit of the dormitory. It’s a local Taiwanese chain. Once you secure your spot in the dorms, the dorm office will provide you with a payment slip, which you’ll need to print. Bring this slip to the store, where you can pay the fee in cash, if you do not have cash there is an ATM in there. They’ll stamp the slip as proof of payment. After that, just show the stamped slip to the reception or security desk at the dorm, and they’ll give you your room keys
After settling in, I had a chance to explore the area and pick up some essentials to tidy up my dorm and stock up on basic living supplies. Although I initially traveled a bit farther out to shop, I later discovered that there’s actually a well sized supermarket right downstairs that offers all the neccessities one might need.
