Health and Wellbeing includes Physical Education and PSE lessons. The Health and Wellbeing Area of Learning and Experience provides an holistic structure for understanding health and wellbeing. It is concerned with developing the capacity of pupils to navigate life's opportunities and challenges. The fundamental components of this Area are physical health and development, mental health, and emotional and social well-being.
As an area we highlight the importance of not only physical exercise but understanding how the body works, keeping the body and mind safe as well as social issues concerning our pupils.
The area of learning also offers many extra-curricular clubs that you can participate in. Clubs are run by the school PE teachers, Sports Pembrokeshire and the Welsh Rugby Union participation officer.
In Year 7 you will have three practical PE lessons per fortnight. The practical (PE) lessons focus on developing your physical health in a number of different activities, including Netball, Hockey, Rugby, Football, Gymnastics, Dance, Badminton, Athletics, etc.
In Year 7 you will have one PSE lesson per fortnight. PSE lessons offer an in-depth program of study focusing on the emotional, social and physical aspects of well-being. These lessons also address the social issues surrounding pupils, such as alcohol and online safety. This program is supported by many outside agencies, including the Police Fire Service, School Nurse and many others.
A big part of the Health and Well-being area of learning is the School Council - where each year group is represented. The School Council plays a vital role in shaping the school and addressing the needs of the pupils.
Whole school initiatives are led within this area; for example anti-bullying week.
