Hi. I’m Mrs Williams, ALNCoat Haverfordwest High. I am a teacher at the school, however, you will see me in the ALN department most days. I also run the HHVCS School Council and look forward to hearing your thoughts on how we can make the school the best it can be. See you soon!
I am Mrs Rogers and I am in charge of the day-to-day running of the department. I am the person who is most likely to be able to sort out your problems. I am a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) and I am in charge of sorting out timetables and individual work for people working in the ALN department.
If you are on the additional needs register you will come and visit us at some time so we can check you are getting all the help you need. We will help you to put together a One Page Profile which your teachers can look at to help you in class.
If you need to have some extra help outside class, maybe with your reading, you might come to us for either Read, Write Inc or Lexia (both sessions to help you improve your literacy skills). We have 3 LSAs who are specially trained to help you to improve your literacy skills.
If you are too unwell to go into lessons you might come and work with our Learning Coaches for a while. For example, if you broke your leg and could not walk around the school site.
If you take regular medication or need to keep medication in school we will look after it for you and check that you remember to take it.
We also run a breakfast club and we are open at break and lunch if you need somewhere a bit quieter to go or would like to talk to a member of staff.
We also have an Emotional Literacy Support Assisstant who might help you with any emotional difficulties, like if you are not getting on with your friends or you are feeling anxious about work.
Most of you will just need help from your class teachers but we also have a great team of LSAs who may come in your class to help people. Some classes might have an LSA all of the time but other classes may just get a bit of extra help in some lessons. If you are really struggling in a particular lesson we might be able to send an LSA to help out.
The HHVC School Health Nurses is Sister Cath Duffy. Pupils and parents can request to speak with her whenever they need to. Cath is really friendly and can be super helpful if you need advice or support with a medical issue.
Take a look at this resource from the Inclusion Service which has been designed to help pupils make the transition from primary to secondary school.
