Reflection

• Using Scratch, I created a clicker game because Cookie Clicker is blocked. I wanted to make something similar so I could still enjoy the gameplay experience. This project helped me understand how clicker games work and let me build my own version.

• During this process, I learned how to do basic coding. I figured out how to use Scratch’s blocks to create a system where clicking increases a score and unlocks upgrades. Experimenting with different coding techniques helped me understand how games are built.

• My project ties to Empowered Learner because I took the initiative to research coding techniques. I watched several videos and studied other clicker games to learn how to make my game function correctly. By learning on my own, I improved my problem-solving and technical skills.

• A challenge I overcame in this project was learning how to do the coding. At first, my game didn’t work properly, but I solved the problem by researching how similar games were coded. Watching tutorials and testing different ideas helped me build a working clicker game.

• Given a chance to do this again, I would change the number of upgrades available in the game. The reason why I would change it is to make the experience more like Cookie Clicker, my original inspiration. Adding more upgrade options would make the game more engaging and allow for longer playtime.

• My project connects to the Computer Programming CTE program at Hastings High School. I used coding skills to design and improve a functional game. This project helped me understand how programming is used to create interactive experiences.

• My project connects to careers in game development because I coded a game from scratch. Game developers use programming, creativity, and problem-solving to build interactive entertainment. This project gave me insight into how games are structured and developed.
