For this project I decided to do 3d-Printing for the second time. I decided to do this because last I thought of many ways I could make to better, so I want to see whether or not my ideas really improve my project or not.
Planning Questions
I am working by myself.
For my project I will need to use a 3d-printer and the tinkercad app.
My goal is to create an improved version of my 3d printed fork.
My project will be unique because it is my own design of a fork.
The Steps
Day 1: On the first day of working on my project I went into tinkercad and looked at the fork I created last time. Once I had started to have an idea of ways I can improve the fork. I went into a new project on Tinkercad and started to use different shapes on my fork. I changed the size and placement of things.
Day 2: On day two I did a double check on my fork to make sure it was exactly how I wanted it and I started the print. While it was printing out I went onto my website and filled out my reflecton. It didn't get finished printing until after class so I had to wait until day three.
Day 3: On day three my print was finished. Once I had my fork printed out I took a video of it on my ipad and put the music in using imovie. When I was finished with everything else I went back onto my website to check on my reflection. I made sure that I had everything I need to have and had correct answers.
Sentence Starters
Using a 3d printer and the Tinkercad website, I created an improved version of the fork I made for project one because after I had created my fork the first time I thought of many different ways I could've made it better.
During this process, I learned more about designing something that is practical. I learned more about how you have to move things around and change things to made it work how its supposed to.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer because for this project I designed something by taking an old design and inproving it to make it more useable.
A challenge I overcame on this project was making the fork more useful. I was able to do it by changing my forks shape and size until it looked like it would finally work the way I wanted it to.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the part of the fork you stab food with. The reason why I would change it is because right now it is very easy to break, which is fine for some foods but if I were going to do this again I would make it more sturdy/unbreakable.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in Prototype Engineering because this project is about engineering a prototype to make it work better.
Final Words
During this project I changed many things to make my fork more usable and see what is possible. My fork was originally more of a small pitchfork so these last couple of days I was working to make a fork that is more like the fork you'd see in your kitchen. I removed two of the prongs and I rounded the handle much more like a regular fork.
