Using Tinkercad, I created a coaster because they are always useful and nice to have. Coasters protect surfaces from moisture and heat, making them practical for everyday use. I wanted to create something functional that I could also personalize.
During this process, I learned how to make 3D models. This skill opened up new possibilities for designing other objects in the future. I found it exciting to see my ideas come to life in a virtual space.
The seven standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Empowered Learner because I got the coaster idea by myself and made it by myself. This experience reinforced my ability to take initiative and manage my own learning process.
A challenge I overcame on this project was getting everything to the right size. I was able to do it by being patient. This taught me the importance of precision in design and how small adjustments can make a big difference.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change it so there would be pieces to hold in some letters. The reason why I would change it is because a couple of pieces came out. This adjustment would enhance the overall stability and aesthetic of the coaster.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. By engaging with this program, I can further develop my design skills and explore various engineering concepts.
My project connects to careers in 3D Printer Designer because they make 3D prints. These professionals use their creativity and technical skills to produce a wide range of products. Learning about this field inspires me to think about future career possibilities related to design and technology.
