Sword team is one of the armed teams of JROTC focusing on the use of swords. Cadets will learn how to properly and safely handle their own sword along with learning unique tricks and spins with fluid motion. These spins focus on improving cadet’s focus and patience as they move onto more complicated and challenging movements. As cadets continue to improve their skills they are given the freedom to invent their own spins. There is always a push for new creations that are unique and refining them so that they may be passed down to future cadets.
Each year a team of the 4 best cadets get the opportunity to perform in a competition representing the corps. The team will create their own performance combining marching and spinning to present to a panel of judges while also competing against other JROTC corps.
The ability to further get to know and get closer to your fellow team members is a big thing in the Sword Team. The team includes collaboration with other members which may include helping others to understand or practice spins, or to create new ones together. The format of the team also allows for a lot of conversation while practicing which helps the teammates to know each other a lot better and create fun experiences.
No matter what your skill level may be, the Sword Team is a place where cadets can constantly look to improve themselves, their skills, and get closer with their fellow cadets.
