Take a look at this creative way third grade studied character traits that support the soft skills of perseverance, accountability, responsibility, and kindness. Students chose a character from a book of their choice. They then used a bottle to create the character from their story. On the outside they put 5 external character traits and on the inside they put 5 internal character traits.
Third graders at Park are working full STEAM ahead this year, again! Students used their artistic abilities to create self-portraits that portrayed their character traits, built arrays using food and blocks to learn the fundamentals of multiplication, and explored and examined the qualities of soil! Third Grade Park students' hands-on learning experiences provide a deep level of student engagement. Park STEAM learning activities are kid-tested and teacher approved!
After learning the layers of soil, Third Graders re-used Styrofoam trays and etched in their understanding of the layers of soil and what could be found in each layer. Once the etching was complete, students used the ink and brayer to create their artwork. The artwork was displayed as an informational graphic for passersby.
Experimenting with heat producing elements, the students listed characteristics, attributes, and observations as they witnessed the creation of Elephant's Toothpaste!
Students used a variety of filters such as coffee filters, dryer sheets, and paper towels to observe which filter is the most effective. The students found the paper towel filter resulted in the clearest water, followed by the dryer sheet, and then the coffee filter.
