Oliviatown was a collaborative lesson between art, music, and media. The author, Mr. Levi, came in and read Oliviatown to the school virtually. Several weeks prior to his visit the kids were reading Oliviatown in art and creating images of their own towns using chalk crayons. All of the images together created a mural in the entry way of Park to welcome Mr. Levi.
Students in grades K-4 at Park Elementary create a monochromatic self-portrait in art class. Mrs. McNeal gave many shades of one rainbow color to each student and instructed them to draw and color their self-portrait using only those shades of the given color. As students complete the portraits, it is added to a large school-wide rainbow mural of all the beautiful faces that make up Park Elementary!
Yarn Bombing
Third grade students were learning about the Navajo rug weavers and the process of shearing the sheep, spinning the yarn, and making a weaving using a loom. They were weaving on a handmade mini loom as well as working on a collaborative weaving.
They measured the 1/2" intervals on their loom and cut the lines to hold the warp strings tightly. Lastly, they began weaving with the weft string in a variety of colors.
