I hope everyone has had a chance to thaw out after the winter blasts we’ve experienced lately! Growing up in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee, winter weather was simply a way of life for several months each year. While I’ve always loved the snow (and always will), I’ll admit—I’m ready for spring 😊.
We are excited about the progress we are making with our Spring STEAM initiative, which gives students the opportunity to truly explore their passion. The goal is to ignite curiosity at a level that we hope will spill over into all aspects of your child’s learning experience.
I encourage you, as parents, to ask your students about what they are working on (if you haven’t already) and help foster that curiosity and those dreams. Your support and encouragement make a tremendous difference.
Please don’t hesitate to let us know if we can ever be of service to you.

I am currently a middle school counselor serving students with last names A–L. My previous background includes working as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) and as a counselor in private practice, which helped build my skills in supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional needs. I earned a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling and am currently pursuing a doctorate in school psychology to deepen my impact in educational settings. Outside of work, I was a college softball player, and I’m now looking forward to getting married. I truly love my job and value the relationships I build with my students and school community.
I am a middle school counselor at North Hall Middle School for those students with last names beginning with M – Z. This is my 25th year in education. I have been a high school science teacher, counselor, and assistant principal. My wife of almost 40 years, Carol (media specialist at the high school) and I have three sons, all of whom attended North Hall Middle School. We have two grandchildren with three more on the way. We love to travel with our family.
"I would like to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for all that you do. As a parent liaison, I have seen firsthand the dedication, care, and support you provide to our students and families.
Your willingness to listen, your guidance, and your commitment to helping students succeed truly make a difference. Families feel supported and valued because of your efforts, and your collaboration is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for the positive impact you continue to have on our school community. Your hard work and compassion do not go unnoticed."
"We are very blessed with two counselors that genuinely care about the students. They remain calm and patient even on the most stressful, chaotic days. I truly do not know how they handle the tremendous emotional load that comes with students sharing their problems. "
Bobby and Charli,
Thank you for the incredible work you do supporting our students. Your dedication helps them grow into confident, kind, and resilient people. Have a great week!
Miss. Shepheard and Mr. Hammond go above and beyond to not only take care of our students, but our staff too. They are always helpful and make everyone feel heard and valued. We are very blessed to have both of them at NHMS.
Charli – Heart of GOLD! Truly works daily to make sure students are happy and taken care of!
Bobby – Wise, understanding with a huge heart ready to serve!
Grateful to have both of you as my co-worker and friend!!
"Bobby & Charli make such a HUGE difference to our school. You can tell the students really trust them & have a safe space to go to when needed.
The support they have given in and out of the classroom is amazing! Thanks for all y’all do! 😊"
Our North Hall Middle students have officially begun working on their STEAM Passion projects for this semester! We are so thrilled to see the amazing topics and creative projects they are working on!
If we have School from Home Days due to inclement weather, this is a great opportunity for them to work on their STEAM projects!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's homeroom teacher or our STEAM Coordinator, Jessica Catrett at jessica.catrett@hallco.org
Each of our NHMS students are choosing their OWN driving question for this semester's STEAM Passion Project! We have a wide variety of topics and ideas! We also have an INCREDIBLE staff with expertise in and outside of the classroom. Below are some of our Staff STEAM Spotlights. If your child has a driving question related to their areas of expertise, encourage them to get connected.
