Tips for Families:

Short Works Can Motivate Reluctant Readers

By the time they are teens, most students can read … but many of them don't. Too many teens never learn to see reading as something they can do for fun.

Pleasure reading is an important way students can strengthen their reading skills. To encourage your teen to read for pleasure:

• Suggest trying short works—such as collections of short stories or poems. If your teen doesn't like one poem or story, it's OK to move on to another. There's no rule that says your teen has to read every short story in the collection.

• Encourage a routine. Ask your teen to commit to spending at least 20 minutes a day reading. Reading requires some patience—especially older works.

• Encourage your teen to keep reading once started. Some teens stop to look up every word they don't know and soon lose any understanding of what the overall book is about. Unless a word reappears often—and your teen can't understand it—suggest jotting it down and continuing to read. Later, your teen can look up the meanings of unfamiliar words.

• Suggest skipping prefaces and other introductory material by other authors. These can sometimes be long and confusing. Your teen can go back and read them after finishing the main text of the book, when they will make more sense.

• Look for other books by writers your teen likes. Your student may also enjoy reading biographies of favorite authors.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: 

Middle School Athletics: Hall County School District Middle School Sporting Events will have an admission price of $5 per ticket. There will be a flat fee of $15 for a family of three or more.

Car Rider Procedures:

In the morning, we will only have 1 line. This will allow our staff to enter the parking lot. Please do not pass the car in line in front of you as students may be exiting on the driver's side. We want all students to arrive safely.  In the afternoon, we will have 2 lines to get traffic off Fran Mar as soon as possible. We will merge in a zipper format in the afternoon at the indicated merge point. Thank you!

Insurance:

The HCSD offers student insurance through the company, Student Assurance Services. This insurance is supplemental to a family’s primary provider and will assist with added costs in certain situations. For more details, please refer to…

Consejos para Familias:

Obras Cortas Pueden Motivar Lectores Reacios

Cuando llegan a la adolescencia, la mayoría de los estudiantes saben leer... pero muchos no lo hacen. Demasiados adolescentes nunca aprenden a ver la lectura como algo que pueden disfrutar.

La lectura por placer es una forma importante en que los estudiantes pueden fortalecer sus habilidades de lectura. Para animar a su adolescente a leer por placer:

• Sugiera leer obras cortas—como colecciones de cuentos o poemas. Si a su adolescente no le gusta un poema o un cuento, no hay problema en pasar a otro. No hay ninguna regla que diga que deba leer todos los cuentos de la colección.

• Fomente una rutina. Pídale a su adolescente que se comprometa a leer al menos 20 minutos al día. Lectura requiere paciencia—especialmente con obras clásicas.

• Anima a tu adolescente a seguir leyendo una vez que haya empezado. Algunos adolescentes se detienen a buscar cada palabra que no conocen y pronto pierden el hilo de la historia. A menos que una palabra se repita con frecuencia—y tu adolescente no la entienda—sugiérele que la anote y continúe leyendo. Más tarde, podrá buscar el significado de las palabras desconocidas.

• Sugiera que su adolescente salte los prólogos y otros materiales introductorios escritos por otros autores. A veces pueden ser largos y confusos. Su adolescente puede volver a leerlos después de terminar el texto principal del libro, cuando le resultarán más comprensibles.

• Busca otros libros de los autores que le gustan a tu adolescente. Pueda que a tu adolescente también le guste leer biografías de sus autores favoritos.

Atletismo en Escuelas Intermedias: Los Eventos Deportivos de Escuelas Intermedias del Distrito Escolar del Condado de Hall tendrán un precio de entrada de $5 por boleto. Habrá una tarifa fija de $15 para una familia de tres o más.

Por la mañana, solo tendremos 1 línea. Esto permitirá que nuestro personal ingrese al estacionamiento. Por favor, no pase el automóvil en línea frente a usted ya que los estudiantes pueden estar saliendo del lado del conductor. Queremos que todos los estudiantes lleguen seguros. Por la tarde dispondremos de 2 líneas para sacar el tráfico de Fran Mar lo antes posible. Vamos a confluir en formato cremallera por la tarde en el punto de fusión indicado. ¡Gracias!
