GROWing Better Today than Yesterday
GROWing Better Today than Yesterday
Welcome Back Bear Family!
I am so excited to welcome everyone back to school very soon. For those new to the Bluff, this newsletter comes out at the end of each month to communicate, celebrate, and be a reference for you. It is sent out via Infinite Campus as well as Remind, in addition to being linked on our website. Please make sure to update any changes in your emails and phone numbers in Infinite Campus and add the Remind accounts for your student(s). We keep one general information Remind account for each class the four years they are on campus, so once you sign up, you should be "in the know" from the start of 9th grade through graduation (which moves very quickly, by the way 🥹 ).
We have a few new faces this school year. Mrs. Micah Porter will be joining our administrative team as the assistant principal in charge of Curriculum and Instruction. She has been hard at work with her team working on schedules which will be released July 25. If you see an issue on your student's schedule, please enter that into the Google Form which will be sent out the same day through Remind.
Mr. Ralph Neeley will also be joining our administrative team as our Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. We are excited to see the new ideas he has for our kids and our community as he works with coaches and athletes in addition to our entire student body each day. Please introduce yourself at one of the extra curricular activities or games soon.
The next item to put on your calendar is our Open House which will be from 4-7pm on July 28. This also happens to be our teachers first day back, so I appreciate your understanding that our teachers will be working hard all week to get 1st Day ready. While it is not the time to change schedules, it is a great time to tour the building, say hello to your teachers, get a locker, etc. We look forward to meeting you this night.
Dress Code and Cell Phones:
Please be reminded of the dress code below BEFORE shopping for Back to School clothes, and check out our cell phone expectations at this link. Students will be expected to put cell phones away during bell to bell instruction. Lockers will be available if you think that could help with management of these devices.
Drop-off / Carpool/ Student Parking:
I wanted to make you aware that there have been much needed speed tables between the middle and high schools (down by the baseball and softball fields) in addition to around the back of the stadium installed this summer.
Those who are coming from the middle school to either drop off a student at the high school or park in the student lot, may drive between the middle and high school by the baseball and softball fields. However, ONLY BUSES should be turning left between 7:30 and 8:25 am and between 3:15 and 4:00 pm for the safety of all students. All drop-offs coming from Cherokee Bluff Middle School may turn right and follow around the back of the stadium to join in the car rider drop off lane. You may also go back out to Spout Springs and come in the front driveway.
ALL student drivers MUST complete the paperwork available on our school website and pay for an assigned spot in order to park on campus. Spaces are assigned on a first come, first served basis starting with our seniors as first priority.
For those returning to this newsletter, you may notice the boat motif at the top, which may not connect initially with a Bear. Our theme for the year is gROWing better today...than yesterday. Our district is focused on getting better each day. The staff at CBHS did a bo0k study over the summer that covered Row the Boat by Jon Gordon and P.J.Fleck. It is a great read about leadership and being part of a team that chronicles Coach P.J Fleck's story and his row the boat mantra as a successful college football coach. I hope our students see that that in order to move toward success, it is crucial that we row together. We will be talking about this a little more at our class meetings and throughout the year.
It is going to be a great year because each of you are a part of this awesome community. I look forward to learning together this year!
Make good choices, and always Go Bears!
Love,
Mrs. Ramsey
Student Schedules
Students schedules will be released on Friday, July 25th at 9am in Infinite Campus. Schedules may continue to change after this point as we ensure all students are scheduled for the classes they need to graduate and classes are balanced.
Schedule Changes
If students have an error in their schedule, a form will be sent via Remind on Friday morning to students to submit their request. We are not able to accommodate requests to changes teachers or periods. Changes will be considered for the following situations:
A student is registered for a class they already have credit for.
A senior is missing a course required for graduation.
The student has an open period in their schedule.
The student has two classes scheduled in the same period.
The CBHS schedule does not reflect Dual Enrollment courses that the student is already registered for.
Dual Enrollment
Dual enrollment classes will be added to a student's CBHS schedule once they have registered for the course. Students that are doing Dual Enrollment and do not see the courses reflected on their CBHS schedule should email a screen shot of their dual enrollment course schedule to Ms. Porter at micah.porter@hallco.org
Annual Census Verification
All parents should complete the annual Census Verification through the Campus Parent app prior to the start of the year. Additional help can be found here.
Work Based Learning

Student IDs & Dress Code
Dress Code is linked HERE (on digital page 11) and is in the Student Agenda as well linked to our webpage.
Please refer to Student McBearson as a visual example of dress code expectations.
IDs are part of our school dress code. All students, staff, subs, and visitors are expected to wear an ID on a lanyard around the neck during the school day. This is for the safety of everyone in our building.
Please consider these guidelines when purchasing Back to School clothes. While our first concern is that students remain in class, students who consistently defy the dress code will have consequences beginning with calling a parent or guardian to bring other clothing to school and ending with possible ISS for not following school rules.
Please consider these guidelines above and the visual to the right when purchasing Back to School clothes. While our first concern is that students remain in class, students who consistently defy the dress code will have consequences beginning with calling a guardian to bring other clothing to school and ending with possible ISS for not following school rules.
With Back to School shopping, please also plan for beginning of the year financials.
Students can purchase yearbooks and pay class dues at a lower price if paid early. Things like club dues, sports fees, Homecoming tickets, etc. all happen in the first few weeks of school (and lower priced prom tickets aren't too much later)
If you want to stay "in the know," please check our website and sign up for Remind.
All lunchroom balances must be paid off each month. Balances carry over year to year. It is also important to remember that you are unable to walk at graduation without having a $0 balance. If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call. Below is the link to look at your personalized MyPaymentPlus account.

Congratulations to the many team members from our Baseball Team that were chosen by the Atlanta Journal Constitution to the All State Team. This was an article from the Gainesville Times over the summer highlighting each of them.
Successful day one! We had Neil Clark from The Party Shop come and speak about entrepreneurship. He also gave some financial advice to the students by teaching them the 50/30/20 rule (spend 50% on what you need, 30% on what you want, and save/pay off debt with the last 20%). Some of the “real-life” skills we added were budgeting and check writing
Another successful GROW day 2. Job interview skills, some more self-advocacy practice, and, of course, tie tying. We had Danny Raciti, the owner of Rachetti’s Pizza speak (and he brought the pizza for lunch!).
Day 3 of Cherokee Bluff GROW Summer Program was a great success! We partnered up with Flowery Branch High School and went to Home Depot. They gave a great presentation then toured the students around the different departments and explained what personnel in each department would have to do. They also explained their tuition reimbursement options for college students and even talked some about their stock and 401k. After we went to Chili’s to eat – a few kids had never eaten there before!
