We utilize quality literature and the Lucy Calkins Reading Units of Study (2023 edition) program to scaffold reading routines. Students also use the Lexia Online Reading Program to supplement their reading skills.
Please stay tuned as I update these units to reflect the updated version of the Lucy Calkins Reading program!
Students will be screened three times throughout the school year using DIBELS. This brief screening is helpful in knowing what kind of reader your child is so that we can promote continued progress in the school year. It also will help determine which students may need additional support in areas of reading, such as decoding, fluency, or comprehension. If you have any questions about the DIBELS, we can schedule a meeting to discuss your child's results and plan of action.
Another way to assess reading ability is the the Fountas & Pinnell Text Level Gradient. Take a look at the chart to see how your child will progress over their elementary years. It also may be helpful when choosing books to read with your child. It is important that their reading materials match their reading ability - accuracy, fluency, and comprehension!
