New Year's is a popular time when people do their traditions and create new resolutions, coining the term “New Year’s resolutions." One example of a popular tradition is people eating twelve grapes for each of Midnight’s twelve chimes in hopes of receiving good luck, but only if they finish them all. This is commonly celebrated in Spain, Portugal, and much of Latin America. Similarly, in the Philippines, eating 12-round fruits on New Year's Eve is thought to bring good luck. Other countries also participate in wearing or eating round objects in hopes that the circular shape, similar to the shape of coins, will equate to a wealthier year than the last.
New Year's resolutions are the most common tradition around the world. People see the new year as a fresh start and want to improve themselves in the coming year. Some of the most common goals are saving more money, eating healthier, and exercising more. Or seen more today people are getting creative with their resolutions and choose things like ordering every drink off the Starbucks menu or running a 5k every month. People are always looking for ways of self-improvement this time of year; will you be participating?
