Meet Rhianna: From Foster Care to Honors Program Student

“Just because we are a community college does NOT mean that the education we gain from here is any less than of a typical 4-year University.”

Rhianna Dupla thought she was “never smart enough, or even good enough to attend college and even possibly graduate high school…” She grew up in foster homes and group living and graduated from high school with a 2.5 GPA.

After deciding she didn’t want “to be a statistic…aged out foster/state youth that struggles throughout their life and never achieves their goals and aspirations,” she applied to HACC.

Our Promise to Students: YOU are the Priority

The coronavirus pandemic has created new challenges for students and employees. The spring semester was a historic experiment in how to move quickly and adjust to constantly changing dynamics. Together, we did it.

Now, students and faculty are preparing for the fall 2020 semester. Most classes will be taught through remote instruction or virtual learning. Even though this is not what many of us planned for, students will receive the same level of support and instruction that they need from HACC. Our faculty will keep their promises, be there for students and continue to make them the priority!

Engaging with HACC on Social Media

Where are you on social media? Do you prefer Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or LinkedIn? HACC is on all of those platforms and more! In fact, we have more than 12,000 likes on our collegewide Facebook page and more than 5,800 Twitter followers!

Perhaps you’d even like a Facebook group created for your HACC program. Please fill out a communications hub request, and the Office of College Advancement will be happy to work with you to create one. We can link the newly created Facebook group to an existing HACC Facebook page for more exposure.

We hope to see you in the social media world! #HACCproud
