Course Overview
Students studying Digital Art will develop skills in conceptual thinking through application of a design process. They will learn to use a variety of personal drawing software and professional platforms such as Photoshop and Illustrator to produce digital art, which may include digital painting, collage, image manipulation, motion graphics, and interactive digital works. Students will also study and analyse digital artworks produced by contemporary artist to inform their studio practice.
What kinds of art works will we make?
Students will explore a range of 2D methods including digital painting, motion graphics, photo manipulation & compositing, and interactive art.
What skills and techniques will we learn?
Students will use drawing tablets, computers, iPads and cameras combined with traditional drawing methods and image capture. They will explore new and emerging technologies to solve visual problems using a design process. Students will learn to plan and create motion graphics and animations, digital character designs, digital illustrations & paintings, and manipulated photographs. Students will also learn how to plan and produce digital artworks demonstrating an understanding of art elements and principles and industry standard techniques.

What VCE studies does this subject lead to?
This subject leads directly into Art Creative Practice at year 10, 11 or 12. It will also be of great benefit to those wishing to study Visual Communication Design and Media. The practical skills that you learn are likely to contribute to the following years cumulatively as you build understanding and a solid background in the subject area. It is encouraged but not essential to take more than one Visual Art study in 9 or 10 to prepare for VCE
