Year 10 Media is made up of assessment tasks that are both practical and theoretical. Students first learn to use the digital cameras and green screen to complete a mock up news broadcast. They learn to use studio lighting and digital microphones and also boom mics to record a news story. They conduct weather reports and live crosses to a reporter in the field.
We also spend a substantial amount of time watching media texts such as TV programs and Feature films, looking at the way media makers construct meaning and portray representations in texts. This assessment is completed in the form of a VLOG rather than a lengthy written essay – where students talk directly to the camera and analysis the narrative films.
Our last area of study is the production of a variety of short film sequences in smalln production groups. Once you have mastered the use of the equipment you are free to be creative and show all that you have learnt and apply it in the production of your own short narrative film.
