English Language Development (ELD)

ELD English| Grades 9-12

Prerequisites: Placement based on ELPAC score and ELD coordinator recommendation. Students must be within their first year in the United States.

This is an introductory English course for students who do not speak the language or are limited to the point where independent academic proficiency in a regular English class is not possible. Basic conversational English is stressed initially. The majority of instruction is in English with translation support most of the time. Reading and writing skills are introduced as students progress. Listening and speaking activities are also part of this course. 

ELD 1| Grades 9-12

Prerequisites: Placement based on ELPAC score and ELD coordinator recommendation.

ELD 2| Grades 9-12

Prerequisites: Placement based on ELPAC score and ELD coordinator recommendation.

This course is designed for English learners who score emerging on ELPAC and/or who have taken ELD 1.  These students have attained some degree of English proficiency, but are not ready for regular English classes. The majority of instruction is in English with translations kept to a minimum. Listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities are practiced throughout the course. Course instruction is in English. ELD core standards are addressed and supported.

ELD 3| Grades 9-12

Prerequisites: Placed based on ELPAC score and ELD coordinator recommendation

This course is designed for English learners who score low expanding or mid expanding but need additional help to be successful in their regular English classes. This course incorporates English grammar, oral and written reports, literature and vocabulary. Listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities are practiced throughout the course. Course instruction is in English. ELD core standards are addressed and supported.

ELD 4| Grades 9-12

This course is designed for English learners who score high expanding, but need additional help to be successful in their regular English classes.
