Biology is the branch of science that studies living organisms. This course will teach students about the major themes of biology. A focus will be placed on biochemistry, genetics, evolution, heredity and ecology. The goal of this course is to help students develop an understanding of key biological concepts. It will also serve to strengthen their research, problem solving, and critical-thinking skills. Course work will include readings, lab reports (both formal and informal), projects, presentations, notes and hands-on activities that will reinforce topics taught during the year. This course satisfies the biological requirement and meets UC/CSU lab science credit.
Agriculture Biology is a one-year laboratory science course designed for the college-bound student with career interests in agriculture. Using agriculture as the learning vehicle, the course emphasizes the principles, central concepts, and inter-relationships between plants and animals among the following topics: molecular and cellular aspects of life, reproduction, evolution, genetics, taxonomy, ecological relationships among animals, and the similarities between animals and humans. This class is designed as second level in Agricultural science. This course is taught in conjunction with the standards set by the state towards Biology and the state Life science test. Agriculture Biology is design to explore all of the Biology based studies and focus on plant and animal life. Topics that will be explored will be: Investigation and Experimentation, Cell Biology, Genetics, Ecology and Evolution, and Physiology. This course will also contain an FFA component and the students will be heavily encouraged to participate in the many FFA activities. The students will also be expected to maintain an accurate record book throughout the year.
This course focuses on the study about what things are made of and the changes they go through. This course integrates the state adopted high school Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) pertaining to chemistry concepts. The main topics studied in this course are the structure of the atom, the periodic table, conservation of matter and stoichiometry, chemical reactions, reaction rates and equilibrium, energy transfer, and nuclear processes. Students will develop an understanding of the class concepts by problem-solving and laboratory experience.
This course fulfills the lab requirement needed for California State University and University of California college applicants.
Prerequisites: Ag Biology
Agricultural Chemistry is an introductory chemistry course. Students will receive an in-depth look at chemical and biochemical properties and processes, which are integral to soils, agriculture and the environment. Topics include typical introductory chemistry topics such as matter and energy, chemical bonding and reactions, moles, gaseous and aqueous chemistry and more. However, topics will be engaged with agricultural effects and practices in mind.
Prerequisites: Recommendation from Chemistry teacher or a “B” or better in chemistry.
This course is designed to be equivalent to a general chemistry college course. It is structured around the nine units recommended by the College Board and will give students the opportunity to explore content such as atomic structure, intermolecular forces and bonding, chemical reactions, kinetics, thermodynamics, and equilibrium. Students taking this course are expected to work hard at all times and be prepared to use time outside of class to complete assignments and study.
This course fulfills the lab requirements for California State University and University of California college applicants.
May not be offered every year.
Prerequisite: It is recommended that students pass a year of Chemistry.
This course integrates the state-adopted high school Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) pertaining to physics concepts. This course focuses on the basic concepts and principles involving matter and energy around us through the use of mathematical relationships and laboratory experimentation. The main topics of study in this course are forces and motion, energy, magnetism & electromagnetism, and waves and properties.

In Anatomy, students will investigate the structure and function of the human body. Topics covered will include the basic organization of the body, major body systems, and the impact of diseases. Students will be responsible for the completion of labs, lab reports, case studies, and projects assigned throughout each unit. One of the goals of this course is to prepare students for careers in the medical and biological fields.
A scientific approach to the livestock industry encompassing aspects of animal anatomy, physiology, nutrition, genetics, and epidemiology. Emphasis on livestock's origin, characteristics, adaptations, and contributions to the modern agriculture industry.
This course will be discontinued after 25-26 school year.
