Lesson Expectations

  • To continue to add different pieces of work that you have produced over the year.
  • To create a Google Slideshow with the images of your learning.
  • To make your Timeline live and hand in the link to Google Classroom.

Starter Activity

Discuss the learning that you did in the last lesson. What do you need to do to improve the quality of your images?

iPad Group

In this lesson you will log on to your Google account and use the Slides app.

Step 3

  1. On the iPad, tap the Slides App
  2. Log into your Google Account
  3. Tap the '+' button in the corner of the screen
  4. Choose New Presentation
  5. Give your presentation the name of the piece of work this is for
  6. Once in Slide, tap the '+'
  7. Tap Image
  8. Choose From Photos
  9. Use the photos you've taken from your exercise books.

Computer Group

The computer group will continue to add lines to the spreadsheet. You will make your timeline live.

You will also use the Background part of the spreadsheet to change the background of your presentation.

Step 4

  1. Log on to Google Classroom and open your Timeline Spreadsheet assignment
  2. From the File Menu choose Publish to the web
  3. Click Publish and the click Ok
  4. Go to the Onibar and copy the URL of the spreadsheet
  5. Open the link in the Google Classroom or go to https://timeline.knightlab.com/
  6. Scroll down to Part 3 of the instructions.
  7. Paste the URL from step 4 into the field in that says Google Spreadsheet URL
  8. Press the Tab key on the keyboard
  9. Scroll down to step 4
  10. Click Open Preview in a new Window
  11. Copy the URL from this window
  12. Go back to Google classroom and Add this URL to this post

Step 5a - Insert an image background

The next step is adding a background image or colour to your interactive timeline.

  1. Open a new tab in Google Chrome
  2. Go to Images
  3. Search for an image relevant to your piece of work. For example if it is the Mayans, find a image of one of the Mayan pyramids.
  4. Click Tools
  5. From the Usage Rights menu choose Labelled for non commercial reuse and modification (this ensure you are choosing legal images for your presentation, as this will be published to the internet so must have legal images.)
  6. Find an image and then copy the link
  7. Go back to your spreadsheet and in column R and the row of your entry, paste in the image URL.
  8. Now go back to your interactive timeline refresh the page and you will see the image in the background.

Step 5b - Insert a colour background

In this step you will add an colour code to give your background a colour.

  1. Open the website in Google Classroom or click this link - http://www.paletton.com
  2. Choose a colour and then copy the hex number code of that colour
  3. Go back to the timeline project spreadsheet
  4. Go to column R and then the row you wish to add the colour
  5. Type a # and then paste the hex number in the cell
  6. Now go back to your interactive timeline refresh the page and you will see the colour in the background.
