Phase One: Pipeline Costs, Tools and Tricks
Move on to Phase 2:
Nisku Oil Storage Facility
Site Map
Refer back to the site on Google Earth.
You can quickly measure the site
using the ruler tool.
Remember to include the following in your proposal:
1. An overhead representation (map) of the Nisku site. (Hand drawn is acceptable.)
A. The location of each container on the site.
B. The location of the administration office.
C. Access via roads and railway on the site.
2. A sketch of each container, each on its own page, including measurements, surface area, and volume calculations.
3. A sketch of the administration office, including measurements, surface area, and volume calculations.
Phase 3:
Oil Transportation
Voice Message from Alberta Oil Management CEO Thomas Gilford:
"Hello again, team. Great job on the layout for the Nisku site, it has been passed on to our construction team to source costs and hire builders. I have one task left for you."
"Determine the number of daily transport units required to move 150,000 barrels of oil from AOM’s storage tanks at the Nisku, Alberta facility to Winnipeg, Manitoba and Corpus Christi, Texas."
There are a few considerations you will need to take into account:
- Recall that our Nisku site has a storage capacity of 1.5 million barrels. We will be transporting approximately 10% (150,000 barrels) each day.
- Not all barrels are created equal. The Nisku site uses the UK barrel measure, but our American clients use the U.S. barrel measure. Please refer to the conversions web link to assist you.
- 65% of our oil is destined for American markets.
Canadian destinations will be serviced by B-train tanker trucks, each with a 70, 000 litre* capacity.
*Oil destined for Canadian markets is measured in metric (litres).
You will be required to convert from UK barrels to litres. Here is a useful online tool: http://www.onlineconversion.com/volume.htm
American destinations will be serviced by rail tankers, each with a 10,000 gallon** capacity.
**Oil destined for American markets is measured in U.S.gallons
You will be required to convert from UK barrels to US gallons. Here is a useful online tool.
