India has seen many great leaders who have nurtured this land with their skills and guided it onto the path of development and success. One such man who has devoted his life to the country and particularly to the country's space missions is APJ Abdul Kalam, the Missile Man of India. He was brought up in the spiritual land of Rameswaram where he led a simply delightful life. He was always curious to know the dynamics of flight and thus, he pursued his degree in aeronautical engineering from Madras Institute. He has contributed to India's defense projects while he served at ISRO which includes the prestigious SLV-3. The book, Wings of Fire also provides an insight in the brotherhood of Hindus and Muslims while he lived in the diverse city of Rameswaram with a lot of Brahmin friends who always treated him as an equal. He also served as the President of India and had always been an inspiration to all his citizens. WINGS OF FIRE, his autobiography is a book which is highly encouraging and patriotic .He worked hard to achieve his dreams. This inspires me to go ahead and follow my dreams.

Reading is the most powerful tool that we use to discover the world around us. It is a window which offers a whole new perspective on broader issues. But over the years, it has been observed that people are busy on the social media and seldom have time to read. According to Garrison Keillor(an American author), a book is a gift one can open again and again. The lack of reading is one of the contributing factors leading to the lack of knowledge and inefficiency in the usage of any language.
Mind is a library of what one reads. Investing in good books is considered a life time asset. Not only books but other sources of reading like newspapers and magazines provide knowledge about the latest updates in the world around us. The habit of reading enriches one’s life. Let's follow a day of digital detox in a week and pick up a good book to read. It will make our lives worthwhile.

'Little Women ' by 'Louisa May Alcott' is a very motivating book. It gives us a sense of unity among the family members . The relationship shared by the sisters is the best part as they are very different and have many troubles and arguments but even so they share a lot of things. 'Jo' also has a very strong character, not only for being rebellious and boyish but also for her fierce independence . This book taught me that if you are strong and united with your closed ones , you can achieve everything in life. Everyone should read this book which is now also made into a movie.

“I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.”~ Booker T. Washington.
'Up from Slavery' is an inspiring autobiography of Booker T. Washington, which depicts his ride from slavery to a well-established educator. He had a burning desire for education and in free time he taught himself to read. He spent much of his boyhood time working in a salt furnace and a coal mine, attending school whenever he could. He joined Hampton Institute - a school open to people of all races where students could study. After completing education, he worked as a public speaker and educator to raise money for opening Tuskegee Institute, which grew from just 30 students and one teacher in an old shanty and an abandoned church to 2300 acres of land, 66 buildings, thirty industrial departments, 1400 students and 110 officers. He thought that blacks should not agitate for social equality, but rather earn privileges through hard work and struggle, which is exactly what he did. This story should be read by all.
I learnt that hard work is the key to success and one should've strong determination to get whatever one desires.

A FOREVER FRIEND
It's said that a friend in need is a friend indeed,
Then who better than a book is friend without greed!
Here you open a book and in you stride,
And then in the magnificent world you are able to glide.
Books are the ships that sail through seas,
And on it we are experiencing the pleasant breeze.
Books are gardens with fairies and elves,
Here they are to beautify your shelves.
Books are keys to wisdom's treasure
Books are gates to land of pleasure.
So now it's your turn to choose your way,
Pick your genre and speak your heart away!

‘The Alchemist’ is an amazing inspirational novel. It’s included in one of those books which deserves a space in each and everyone's bookshelf. It is rich in fiction and clearly crafted by Paulo Coelho to teach people to follow their dream and achieve it. 'The Alchemist' is a fable of the dreams of a shepherd named Santiago who had a recurring dream of finding a treasure. In his dream, a child tells him to find treasure near Egyptian pyramids where an encounter with the alchemist awaits him. He sells his flock and goes to Tangier where he is robbed by a thief. Now, in order to earn money so as to reach Egypt, he decides to work in a crystal merchant’s shop. When he reaches the merchant’s shop, he gets to know about Omens and Intuition. The story goes on like this. Although Santiago gains physical treasure at the end of his journey but the true treasure he gained was the experiences he had endured and how he was transformed into an absolutely different person from the Santiago who was introduced at the beginning of the novel.

Reading is like departure and arrival from a place to another. You start off from the first page and as you move further deeper in your journey to the end, you learn, you realize and at last as you arrive from your travel, you get a complete new mindset just like you get a complete new experience after a trip. And that is what reading means to me. A new journey, a whole new adventure, each and every time as I read the last words , my mindset grows just a little more. Reading books, newspapers, magazines, they all help us learn in one or the other way. And sometimes, we might as well learn about the smallest yet very important things from them, something like self-love, confidence and courage. ‘Holding up the Universe’ by Jennifer Niven is a book which taught me about how I, in fact ALL OF US ARE WANTED.It is a book related to problems a teenager faces. It talks about how challenging it can be for one to work out how to see themselves, let alone how to show that self to the world. It talks about how each one is unique in some way and how something or the other is wrong in each one’s life, how we are not the only ones dealing with problems. Other than giving us a hope and making us feel optimistic about ourselves, it has also been quite informative. In the book ,the boy Jack suffers from a disease called prosopagnosia which means the ability to recognize faces is impaired . The way the author deals with it is commendable. Through her writing one can fully understand the basic part of the disease. This book inspired me to like and love the way I am. Just the way Libby stops caring what everyone thought of her fatty body, one too must not care about others opinions on their body. The way Jack deals with his disease is quite motivating too. When I started reading this book I had never thought how much impact it would have on me. The arrival after the journey through this book was quite inspiring .

I AM MALALA. This statement is synonymous to that of a declared victory because Malala Yousafzai is an example of a dignified female who has always fought for her rights without the fear of anyone who might come in her path to success. In the land of Talibans, she was brought up by brave Pashtun parents who always encouraged her to pursue education unlike the other citizens who considered women to be unworthy of any kind of recognition. She said ,"The extremists are afraid of books and pens, the power of education frightens them. They are afraid of women." She raised her voice for the children of Pakistan and was brutally shot by the Talibans. Yet, she survived this attack and emerged to be much more enthusiastic and determined to ensure the freedom of the brothers and sisters of her country. She became the youngest Noble Peace Prize winner in the year 2014. This book is a summary of her struggle and success and is no less than a gift to all of us for it is so motivating and brave.
It inspired me not to be afraid of any situation in life and face all the obstacles with a firm determination and never lose hope.
