Sometimes when we read about social and environmental issues, we become empowered to bring a change!
Many books empower us to make a change. I read a book about climate change and how humans affect the earth. After reading this book I decided to bring a change. It really enlightened me and I realized that some normal things I do in my everyday life were not good for the environment. Now I am very self-conscious about what I do everyday. I encourage everyone to think about what they do before they do it.

The book, 'An Inconvenient Truth' , shows how the world is becoming polluted and heated up. It really reaches to you by showing images of polar bears on shrinking ice and glaciers disappearing forever. This book has inspired me to use less plastic and use less energy.

"Snowboarding book"- I have a book in my room all about snowboarding. This book has a lot of tips and fact about snowboarding. This book taught me a lot about the different types of snowboards, types of riding, and what gear is best for different conditions. This book has empowered me to try different things in snowboarding and just do it in general.

'Awaken the Giant Within' by 'Tony Robbins' is a book for the ones who wish to discover their full potential. This book rejuvenates the spirit .It nicely describes how everything depends on our perception of the world and how it affects our decisions and actions. This book clearly says that failure is a path to success. It really empowered me and motivated me to start living a healthy life.

A time that reading changed my view on the word was when I read I am Malala. I am Malala is a book about a girl in Pakistan who stood up for girls' rights to go to school and learn. Since she stood up for that right, she would have to live in constant fear of someone killing her or her family because they don't agree with her. One day when she was on her way home from school on the bus, a TTP gunman shot her in the head. She survived the attack and was flown to England to have a surgery done. After that she kept fighting for girls' rights to education in Pakistan. This story reminded me that no matter how bad I am doing in life, if I get in trouble and if I have a really bad day, I could be having it way worse, and I am very lucky to live the life that I do.

Margret Fuller has properly stated, "Today a reader, tomorrow a pioneer. "
Perusing is a significant wellspring of information. It builds up our musings, keeps our psyches dynamic , hones our mind and improves our fixation.
Perusing of every single great book resembles being in the organization of best individuals of past hundreds of years and gaining from them. More you read, more things you will learn. The more you learn, better it is for your development. Individuals who read more books are better leaders.

A time when reading changed my view of the world was when I read the book' An Inconvenient Truth' by Al Gore. The book talked about how the plastic in the world was increasing and how soon it would eventually hurt the human species and other types of life. When I read this and other things about how animals and plants are dying and getting plastic in their system due to the increase of plastic in oceans and on land, I was mind-blown. I couldn’t believe that all the plastic utensils, food wrappers, toys, soft drink bottles, grocery bags, it was all getting thrown into the ocean or onto another landfill. Once I thought about it I knew that the problem would soon affect everyone and everything. The oils and chemicals from all the pesticides, chlorines, fertilizers, it was killing our world. A bunch of run-off was getting into our streams, then our rivers and lakes, and soon our oceans. All that pollution was killing wildlife cause the animals weren’t able to survive or live in the conditions. This book made me change how I recycle and how I think of all the plastic and waste on our earth or the plastic we use.

Reading gives us knowledge to do good in the world. For example, we read many articles about the problem of plastic pollution in our oceans. This inspired and empowered us to come up with a solution to prevent plastic from entering our waterways. Our project was for Geochallenge, which is about preventing plastic from entering ours oceans, or taking it out of the oceans. Our group decided to prevent plastic from entering our waterways by creating a game that would teach younger students what is recyclable and what isn’t, so the kids would take in the habit of recycling the correct things. Reading the articles about plastic pollution also made us realize that plastic pollution is a bigger problem than what we thought it was. It also helped us with our projects and realizing what plastics we needed to focus on.

Doing Second Step, a mindfulness program, has made me think of many things differently. For example, we learned about how you can’t assume what someone is about to do. We learned that most of the time people jump to negative conclusions, which most of the time aren’t accurate. This is because our brain is used to making negative conclusions. We have learned how to manage negative thoughts. We have also learned about how not to let negative emotions control our emotions. If we would not have this program, we wouldn’t be empowered to change ourselves for the better.

In the book 'An Inconvenient Truth' , the author talks about what can happen with the future of this earth with the pollution in our world right now. The author persuades the reader to make a switch. He also uses heartbreaking picture which pulls on the reader heartstrings and also get the reader to get other people to get involved with this problem. This book really helped me think about this problem more. Since I was younger my dad and mom always bought reusable items for lunch like containers. Also, I still this day use reusable containers and some of things he said was to use less plastic to help the environment. But, this book really made me feel sorrowful and inform this to others.

Reading can help us to change the world. For example, in 6th grade we entered a contest called eCybermission, where you have to come up with a solution to a real world problem. Our project was based on light pollution. Originally, we were going to do air pollution or plastic pollution. But after we researched about light pollution, we realized that this was a serious problem. Light pollution is the brightening of the night sky by artificial lights, such as street lights, which can disrupt natural cycles of animals and inhibit the observation of stars and planets.
After learning about light pollution, we were empowered to fight this problem. In order to that, we have created a website to spread the news about light pollution. We also put flyers around the school and even presented to Aurora University's (AU) Ecology club about light pollution. We asked AU’s ecology club if they could create a day where all unnecessary lights around the campus would be turned off. We believe that this would not only help fight the problem but raise awareness about light pollution. On the day the lights are turned off we would put flyers around the campus so people can learn about this problem. Learning about light pollution made us empowered to fight against it.

The book, An Inconvenient truth is a book about how humans are impacting the environment. The author talks about how we can have an impact on future generations. The author is very convincing as he uses images that bring out people's emotions such as polar bears on a block of ice trapped. This book inspired me to make a change in what I did. Now, I pay more attention to the impact on the environment from anything I do.

Reading the motivational story of Jake "Stewie2K" Yip was very inspirational to me as it is a story of consistence, perseverance, and fighting against all odds. It made me realize that I should do what I am passionate about even if it should be against all odds. I really think this should apply to everyone because there are many people in the world who are unhappy about what they are currently doing and the only thing holding them back from doing what they really want to do is fear. I think that we should all try to overcome that fear that we won't be good enough, because we are.

When people start reading, they can have many feelings and emotions. Some books are very sad and can be very funny. Reading can cause a flow of emotions in us but this all makes us stronger. Some people read books for fun, but any book can change from happy moments to sad ones, etc. People begin reading from a young age but all the books have different plots and different meanings.

We read a book in ELA called 'An Inconvenient Truth', by Al Gore, and it was all about global warming. The book had many interesting and sad facts/truths. After reading that book, I decided try to do my best to keep the environment healthy. I also try to spread the word to other people. All in all, reading empowered me to do many good things.

My class read a book called 'A Wrinkle in Time' , by Madeleine L'Engle. This book was about a teenage girl (Meg) who didn't get along with a lot of people in school. She had a rather weird family. Meg's brother, who was a genius, met three very old ladies (Mrs.Whatsit , Mrs.Which and Mrs.Who) who built a time machine, this was a creation Meg's mother had been working on. Meg didn't want to go with them, but her brother insisted. The whole reason they were actually doing this was to find Meg's lost father. Anyway, they finally landed on a planet called "Camazotz". The three old ladies declared that they could not come with them. Further on in the story Meg's brother, Charles Wallace, was captured by a creature called "IT". IT had hypnotized Charles and took him out of his body (practically). Meg later on shouted over and over that she loves him and soon Charles is no longer over the spell. Well, it shows that we need to make sure that we are kind to everyone and show your love to the people whom you love.
