About this course
English focuses on strengthening skills--reading, writing, speaking and listening, as well as critical thinking and other analytical skills.
At Year 9, we focus on developing our reading in terms of On, Between and Beyond the Lines (going from finding basic information to thinking further than the text) and the technical aspects of our writing (like punctuation and structure). We also expand students' knowledge of techniques and elements they'll need at senior level, like language features.
Every lesson we begin with a 'Do Now'. The type of activity will follow a 3 week cycle

1- Writing in our journal- Big statement prompt or other writing based activities EG: Leaning about language features or sentence construction.
2- Reading based activities.
3- Speaking activities, based on interpreting and discussing a Whakataukī
