School Counseling Services
The primary goal of the School Counseling Program is to help all students apply academic achievement strategies, manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills, as well as plan for postsecondary options (higher education, military, workforce).

Schedule Changes
It is expected that the student, with a counselor’s help and the parent’s approval, has given careful consideration to their choice of courses. In the event, however, that a schedule must be changed, the following procedures are to be followed:
Students must pick up a “Request for Schedule Change Form” from the Counseling Office.
Schedules will only be changed if there are obvious errors, computer or otherwise.
Final approval of the request will be made by the principal.
Students will remain on class rosters and will be expected to attend all classes until official approval has been given and the student is provided with a new schedule.
Course requests made during spring registration dictate the following school year’s master schedule. For this reason, schedules cannot be changed to accommodate students who failed to complete the registration process and select courses, alternatives, or have changed their minds. In addition, schedules cannot be changed to accommodate requests for specific teachers.
Transfer or Withdrawal Procedures
To withdraw from school, a parent/guardian must come to the school’s counseling office to complete the withdrawal process. This includes the completion of withdrawal paperwork with the address for the student’s new school and new residence. In addition, all school-owned materials must be returned. These include textbooks, Chromebooks, student ID badges, uniforms (as applicable), parking passes, and the payment of outstanding fines. All records given to the student’s family will be marked unofficial until an official record request is received from the student’s new school.
Address Changes
If a student moves during the school year, a parent or legal guardian must submit two proofs of residence into the Parent BackPack program (ex: current power bill, current lease, closing papers, etc).
If your move changes your transportation needs, parents must complete a Transportation Status Update Form available in the counseling office. If a student moves out of the Fountain Inn High School attendance area, the parent should see the registrar for additional information.
Records
In most instances, access to a student's records is restricted to the student's parents or legal guardian (regardless of custodial rights), appropriate school district and educational agency officials, transfer schools, and persons obtaining access by valid subpoena or court order.
Most other persons may obtain access to student records only with the written consent of the parent or guardian. Unless parents or guardians direct otherwise, however, the district will release directory information consisting only of a student's name, school, grade, dates of attendance, degree and awards received, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, and weight and height of members of athletic teams without prior written consent.
Step-Parent Access to the Student and Student Records
In order for a step-parent or other non-custodial caregiver to access student information and have contact with teachers, a Consent of Access Form must be completed and on file. The form must be completed in the counseling office by the natural parent or legal guardian with proper identification.
Transcript Requests, Fees and Dual Credit
Alumni may receive up to three free transcripts after which a required $5.00 fee is charged per transcript request. There is also a set fee by the district for a complete copy of a permanent record.
Additionally, seniors will receive a mid-year transcript and a final transcript after graduation if specifically requested. Students must receive prior approval before enrolling in a Dual Credit course. If a student is taking a dual credit course through Greenville Technical College, it is the student’s responsibility to obtain an official transcript via their Parchment services.
Student Athletes
Students planning on playing sports in college must register through the NCAA Eligibility Center. The center will determine if students are eligible to play college sports. For information visit the website at http://web1.ncaa.org/ECWR2/NCAA_EMS/NCAA.jsp Please note that virtual credit recovery courses are not acceptable in fulfilling eligibility requirements. Potential athletes are highly cautioned against taking online courses.
