504s/IEPs
Make sure to inform your school of any kind of diagnosis for mental or physical health, or if you and your physician(s) are looking into new health needs so that we can help plan and give support that matches what is needed!

What are 504s and IEPs?
IEPs and 504s are documents that serve as blueprints or roadmaps for students struggling to overcome obstacles to learning, such as learning disabilities and various health-based diagnoses. They are legally binding documents that give students with unique needs the unique supports needed to ensure they have what they need to learn.
IEPs modify the learning setting and curriculum to match student needs, while 504s provide accommodations within the classroom to help them access the curriculum.

How do I know if my child qualifies for a 504 plan or IEP?
Keep the school informed about your concerns
If you receive an outside diagnosis for something that has an impact on school success, provide the school with a copy of the diagnosis and ask about next steps for support
If you feel your child may have a learning disability or qualify for special education, discuss with your child's teacher or school counselor so that they can make the appropriate recommendations; you can also make a request to the special education teacher
