This Month: Bob Saget
Bob Saget was born May 17, 1956 in Philadelphia. Though his death was untimely, he was an outstanding comedian, actor, and person to anyone that he encountered. His conversations could make people laugh and be happy.
While staying in Los Angeles, he continued the path of a comic after going to college for medicine, and then leaving because his grades were “lackluster”. According to Biography.com, “He spent years on the comic club circuit, developing an act based on free association and his own unique commentary." While maintaining a working comedian life, he sustained his relationship with his wife Sherri Kramer who was his high school sweetheart and “While on the road, Saget met Brad Grey who became his manager. He eventually landed some small roles in television and film, but his big break came as part of a news show."
After being on The Morning Program, producers let Saget go because he was “too hot for the morning.” His producer found him a job on a family sitcom called Full House, which, the producers of the show did not think was going to be a big hit. Adults, as well as kids, loved it. However, while working on Full House, Saget also began a job as a host for America’s Funniest Home Videos. As said by People magazine, “During the height of his Full House fame, Saget began hosting America's Funniest Home Videos in 1989. The actor worked on both shows in the 1990s and in 1997, he passed the hosting AFHV baton to Tom Bergeron, the current show's host.” After working as a hilarious reality show host, he began his work on directing a 1998 comedy film, Dirty Work.
Later in 2016, Saget reprised his role of Danny Tanner in a spinoff show of Full House, Fuller House, which had ended in 2020. According to People magazine, “Saget wed his wife Kelly Rizzo in October 2018 during a ceremony at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica, California. The ceremony was officiated by actor Jonathan Silverman, who pulled it off with a little help from his wife, Jennifer Finnigan”. Saget had met Rizzo in early 2015 through mutual friends but had never confirmed the identity of the mutual friend. Many of their on-screen family and off-screen family attended the wedding, including the entire cast of Fuller House.
Sadly, on Jan. 9, 2022, Bob Saget passed away and was found in his hotel room in Orlando, Florida after receiving accidental blunt head trauma. According to People magazine, “Saget was found dead in his hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida, on Jan. 9, 2022, following a performance near Jacksonville. The Orange County Sheriff's Office confirmed Saget's death.” He lived a long and fruitful life with his family supporting him, on-screen and off. Bob Saget will remain one of the most influential comedians in history.
