Language is a reflection of how you represent yourself. Cyprus expects students to represent themselves in ways that show respect for themselves and others. Inappropriate communication includes: the "F" word; words that are meant to demean individuals for their ethnicity, gender, disability, or dating preferences; words that are used to bully or harass others; words used as threats. Utah Law 53A-11-904 states: "Students who use foul, profane, vulgar, or abusive language may be subject to school consequences including suspension from school."
Cyprus High students are expected to demonstrate that they are ENGAGED in their education and respect the teachers, students and staff they interact with on a daily basis by using appropriate language.
Students may have school consequences or be suspended for using lewd or inappropriate language, regardless of intent, with whom, or where it was used while on school grounds.
Use of racial slurs, sexual innuendo, profanity, and disrespectful language is NOT acceptable and will carry school consequences.
