Students that have good attendance are more likely to experience academic success.
Cyprus High recognizes students with a variety of incentives for those who are consistently on time.
Students that are not in their classrooms when the bell rings are considered tardy.
Tardiness affects school citizenship, which determines eligibility to special activities and dances.
Students that are over 20 minutes will be marked absent.
Students who arrive later than 10 minutes should check in at the attendance office or with another staff member to get checked in and get a slip to admit them to class.
New policy this year:
Students that have more than 5 tardies in a week will be assigned a lunch detention to the following week. Failure to attend the lunch detention will result in an overnight suspension (suspended until a parent meeting takes place).
Students with more than 10 tardies in one week will be assigned an overnight suspension.
Checking In / Checking Out
Students who leave school before the end of the day are required to check out through the Attendance Office. This may be done with parent or guardian permission only (a note or a phone call).
These students will also need verification from a parent or guardian (a note or a phone call) excusing the absence.
Students getting to school later in the day are also expected to check into the attendance office.
In order excuse an absence, parents must call the school attendance office 385- 646-5302 and report the student’s absence, preferably the morning of the absence.
In the event the parent is unable to call the school on the day of the absence, the student is to bring a note from home when he/she returns to school. The note must include the students name, the reason for the absence, the date/s of the absence and a parent or guardian signature. The attendance office must receive a phone call or note from a parent in order to excuse the absence. ** All absences not cleared within10 days will remain “unexcused” on our school records and will affect the citizenship grade.
Truancy (Sluffing)
Students that are not moving to class after the tardy bell are considered truant.
Students that are checked in will be given 5 min. to get to class before it turns into a truancy.
Truancy tickets may be assigned to students who are seen leaving campus.
A $5 fine will charged for each truancy. If students pay it off within 5 days, it will be $3.
Students must report to school staff and identify themselves if found truant. Students who fail to do so, or walk away from staff will be subject to school discipline and/ or suspension.
