Department of Computer Science

Overview: 

The Computer Science Department of Govt. Graduate College Sahiwal is offering the undergraduate degree of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BS-IT 4 years) at present.  

The department has well equipped IT Labs with state-of-the-art facilities like high speed internet, video conferencing, E-library etc. These facilities are a hub of multidisciplinary research. 

Strong software development skills are being provided to the students in the areas of fundamental programming, object-oriented technologies, data structures and algorithms, database administration and management, networking, web systems and technologies, Artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, cyber security, mobile application development and project management. The main educational goal is to prepare students for professional development and deployment careers either in Pakistan software Industries or in other countries. 

The Department of Computer Science is a center for development and deployment at the undergraduate level. Strong development groups exist in areas of Web Development, Android/iOS Application Development and Software Development.

The department is playing an important role in software related managerial activities for the college like College Website, Android Application and Online Classes. The faculty comprises experienced and qualified teachers.

History: 

In 2000, Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf established an IT computer center to start one-year Graduate diploma (P.G.D). Dr. Muhammad Yasin Sahi (late) was its Project Director and Deputy Commissioner Sahiwal was its chairman. Now, this lab is being used for ICS classes. In 2003, advance computer study was introduced at Bachelors level. 

BS-IT was started in 2010 to cope the need of the era of modern world of technology. Principal Prof. Dr. Anwaar Ahmad spent about 3.7 Million rupees to purchase 36 latest computers and 40 KV generator for the computer Lab to upgrade it and for the smooth running of the classes. In 2013 and later on in 2016 Govt. of the Punjab Higher Education Department provided 45 Computers and video conferencing equipment to establish a Digital library with N-Computing environment for BS Classes. In 2016, department established IT Society. This society organized many seminars on various topics in which foreign as well as national resource persons delivered valuable lectures.

In 2019-2020, latest Core i7, 8th generation 50 computers are purchased to upgrade the N-Computing environment with full-fledged computer systems.  This great effort is done by Principal Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad as he spent 6.5 Million rupees on this project.

The alumnae of the department are serving the nation in every field of life. Adeel Afzal, one of our students received the highest online earner award of Pakistan in year 2018 by E-Rozgaar programme of Govt. of the Punjab. The students of the department participated in several competitions organized by famous universities of Pakistan like BZU, FAST, COMSATS etc. They won several positions over there.
