Report from last year of competition.

Back in July ten children attended the Active Schools Awards at the Camden Centre at Talacre Sports Centre. On behalf of Gospel Oak, they accepted the School & Community Games award for top primary school in the borough (probably the hardest and most prestigious category to win). This award is allocated based on points accrued from:

  • How successful in borough competitions schools were. Gospel Oak won: the Girls Cricket tournament, Girls Football Tournament, Year ¾ and Years 5&6 Key Steps Gymnastics, Basketball, Year 4 Quad Kids, Year 5/6 Athletics, Year ¾ Football, Benchball & Sports Hall Athletics competitions. Also, several B team competitions such as netball, rugby and rounders. We also came 2nd and 3rd in the vast majority of the other competitions (swimming, year 5/6 tennis, girls year 3&4 football, rugby etc). 6 teams were also invited, as Camden champions, to represent Camden in the London School Games.

  • How many competitions were entered and how many children participated. 99.4% of children in years 3-6 represented the school in at least one inter-school match this year (average 3.5) and Gospel Oak entered over 50 different competitions covering a range of 16 different sports.

This is a terrific achievement as many other Camden primary schools now take sport very seriously (over half now emulate Gospel Oak by employing specialist PE teachers or coaches). Many, many children have trained hard and always given up their time to represent the school with enthusiasm and determination. However, special congratulations go to those children who have shown outstanding dedication throughout their time at Gospel Oak. Special thanks also to Nathan Pallas who has trained and escorted teams on trips - as well as all the other staff that have assisted at events and released children to make this possible.
