PE
Overview
All children at Gospel Oak have two PE lessons a week and receive the national curriculum recommended two hours per week :
At Key Stage 1 these lessons might be: games, gymnastics, dance, athletics (running, jumping, throwing) or swimming.
At Key Stage 2 these might be: games, gymnastics, dance, athletics, swimming or outdoor activities/pursuits (primarily accessed through activities on year 6 school journey)
From years 1-6 one PE lesson a week is taught by Jef Gooding (a secondary trained PE teacher) and the other session by the class teacher or the instructor at Kentish Town swimming pool.
We have been been awarded School Games Mark Gold for our sporting provision and sporting achievement. Gospel Oak was the first primary school in Inner London to be awarded gold status. Beyond the PE curriculum, we provide a very wide range of extra-curricular sports clubs both before and after school (and at lunchtimes). In the last year, clubs and sessions were held in: girls, boys and mixed football, netball, x-country, cricket, athletics, rounders, gymnastics, basketball and multi-sports. Nathan Pallas has run open lunchtime clubs 5 days a week - which most children from years 1-6 have attended. Organised and refereed football matches are run in the junior playground most lunch hours. GOSA and the school organise a very successful annual Fun Run. At the last event, pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 (420 children) ran almost 1000 miles and raised thousands of pounds in sponsorship money which was used to fund an amazing KS2 playground climbing structure.
