Paint Studio

Paint-Mural Challenge

Objectives

  • explore how painting can be an avenue that they can use to represent their own identities and make meaning of what is important to them
  • deepen their understanding of how artists use painting as a means to convey individual, community/cultural, and national identity
  • contemplate how artists’ choices reveal some—but perhaps not all—aspects of their own identities

Mural Design Plan

A. Research

Mrs. Slawinkski loves the idea of magical and haunted woods. Gather ideas and put them together on a google doc. Share with me. Begin sketches of ideas in your sketchbook. Sketches will be shown to her and we will begin our murals.

Mr. Wirch would like the Declaration of Independence painted on his wall. Gather ideas and put them together on a google doc. Share with me. Begin sketches of ideas in your sketchbook. Sketches will be shown to him and we will begin our murals.

C. Find a space and art!!!

TAPE & More, Murals!!!!

Criteria-Murals must be:

  • High quality - well planned, visually interesting and well constructed.
  • Complex. All group members must be occupied with making the mural for 2+ class periods.
  • Original. We will use the internet for inspiration, but all sources must be combined, added to or changed in some fundamental way to make them your own.

Process-Inspiration:

  • Research. Create a board with at least 10 images in Google Doc.
  • Pick a wall space, and use the sources you identified to develop an original design.
  • Create a sketch of your idea to scale, including things like doors, walkways or corners.
  • Have the sketch approved by me.

Upload progress photos and final photo to your digital portfolio on Friday.
