During this meeting we will finalize the organization and structure of the club for the 2021-2022 year. In addition we will create small groups and think of projects having to do with food insecurity in Newark, NJ.

This meeting served as a launch pad into researching Food Insecurity and Homelessness in Newark, NJ. Go to this weeks meeting agenda page to learn more.

This meeting we discussed school meals and why people are not eating them, as well as brainstormed what we think some of the reasons why people are not eating school meals and what we could do to make school meals better. We also met with Amador Valley High Local Leaders in which they gave a presentation and gave us some pointers for a new club just getting started.

This meeting we are finalizing the survey to see what kind of foods people would like to see in their school meals, where do they get their food if not from school meals, what kind of foods they normally eat, etc. Please check out todays agenda and find the survey question document we will be going over, as well as other announcements.

We are beginning our journey into changing our school meals for the better. We want them more representative of everyone at the school, but first we need to understand what exactly goes into making our school meals.

Let's get to know our food services in Newark, NJ and beyond a bit better. Check out todays meeting agenda page for the powerpoint and to find out some exciting news!

This meeting we are coming up with additional questions for our soon-to-be quest speaker, Dr. Tonya McGill, doing a short activity, and learning a bit more about the potential of Local Leaders.

We are taking a deep dive into how to bring the GLOBAL --> LOCAL. Please view todays powerpoint and learn how you and our club can make a difference.

We are meeting with Dr. Tonya McGill, please check out todays meeting agenda to post your questions and to learn more about Dr. McGill before we meet with her at this Fridays meeting.

After meeting with Dr. McGill, she told us to do a few things:

  1. Ensure we have a Nutrition Advisory Board

  2. Create a list of meals we would like to see for both breakfast and lunch

  3. Communicate to her our needs - what needs changing and what needs improvement

Today we are going to be working on writing down exactly what we want our school meals to include before the February Bidding Process is over.

Last week we came up with a list of meals we would like Dr. McGill to consider before the bidding process is over - take a look at our suggestions and overall quality comments on our school meals.

Upcoming Opportunity: Nourishing Newark Grants Program - today we are taking a look at some other ways we could improve our school meals, particulalry via Tower Gardens. We are going to do a deep dive into what Tower Gardens, Hydroponics, and the Green Bronx Machine is exactly.

Due to testing for our Seniors and Juniors, we are going to keep this meeting short. However, As we form our Nutritional Advisory Council - we need to talk a little more about Nutrition - so let's get into it. Today we are going to watch a couple of quick nutrition videos and discuss our reactions.
