Defining and understanding Redlining & Blockbusting and their affects on food scarcity in Newark today
Discuss readings and food insecurity in Newark
Elections! We had quite a few people sign up for the same position, so let's discuss how we would all like to determine who gets what position and if there are other positions we could create to include everyone.
Next steps to think about - What would you all like to accomplish by the end of the year? Are there people - like city officials or community members that you would like to meet or hear from? Please think about this for next meeting.
As some of you were able to view this during our meeting, I wanted to provide everyone with the video once more so that you may all watch it on your own time and go through the video, segment by segment to try and answer and think about some of the questions I have listed below and about why you all chose to focus on food.
Please feel free to come up with as many questions and comments as you would like and be prepared to share with the club during our next meeting.
Why did you all choose Food to focus on?
How does your access to Food affect you and your community in your day to day lives?
What does “Healthy” Food mean to you?
What are some barriers that you all either experience or see to obtaining healthy, nutritious Food?
Are there any local initiatives that are trying to expand access to “Healthy” Foods?
What is a Food Desert Community?
What are some ideas you have to help improve the issues surrounding Food in your community?
