This project seeks to address food insecurity and consistent lack of access to clean drinking water that is negatively impacting students at Central and West Side High. In working with and establishing Local Leaders clubs (a program run by the GGI, which teaches high school students about sustainability and local public policy), students in both schools repeatedly addressed the lack of quality food and water at school and have felt disempowered to enact change or demand what has been promised to them.
Main Concerns:
Limited and inconsistent availability of bottled/drinking water
Poor food quality (even at times inedible)
Lack of Halal options
Limited Access to food heating services
Lack of cultural representation
Lack of quality fresh fruits, vegetables, and spices
Poor food taste
A detailed timeline, along with roles and responsiblities of West Side and Central High students, staff, and faculty may be found in this document.
